Lauren Picone wrote a piece called “Creating a Business Climate in a Combative Atmosphere: Prospects for Business in the Central African Republic” for the Association of African Entrepreneurs Hopes and Mirages paper series. She focused on how the civil war in CAR has led to a sinking economy due to the conflict and corruption. Stabilizing the economy would mean that Central Africans would need to reclaim the minerals sector, one of the most relied upon economic sectors, from the corrupt government and Chinese interference. She became inspired to write this piece after writing a research paper on the humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic for a course in the program and learning about how difficult it is for humanitarian organizations and businesses to operate there.
