Briana Peters is a May 2020 graduate of Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) pursuing an M.A. in Political Science: UN and Global Policy Studies (UNMA). She also graduated from Rutgers as a student in the School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program with a B.A. in Political Science and double-minored in Economics and International and Global Studies (concentration in the Asia-Pacific region). As an undergrad, Briana discovered the world of quidditch and has since played for the Rutgers University Quidditch team (now in her 5th year playing); participated in summer study abroad programs in Japan and France; was an Aresty Research Assistant working with the Rutgers-Eagleton Poll; interned at the Middlesex County Surrogate Office; and became a member of several honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa.
As a graduate student, she has volunteered as a Rutgers Global Study Abroad Student Ambassador and as an UNMA Student Ambassador. She also recently had the chance to spend 6 weeks in Germany (with some time spent in Switzerland) living with a host family this past summer through the European Summer Institute in partnership with the International Center for Development and Decent Work at Kassel University, Germany.
Although she greatly enjoyed the experience in Germany, Briana’s field of interest related to her studies is the Asia-Pacific region, and specifically, US-Japan relations. She developed this particular interest after participating in an exchange/study abroad program her sophomore year of undergrad between Rutgers and Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan where students engaged in discussions and travel concerning foreign relations, culture, politics, and WWII memory. Afterwards, she completed two years of Japanese language study through the intermediate level. Upon graduation from UNMA, Briana hopes to work at the UN, an NGO, or the US State Department in the area of Asia-Pacific relations .Ms. Peters recently worked as an Engagement Ambassador at the Rutgers Telefund and was a Development Intern at Japan Society, a nonprofit based in New York City. Currently, she is serving with AmeriCorps City Year in Philadelphia at Kensington High School to help students build academic and social-emotional skills.
