Bio:

After pursuing a bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Rutgers University, Whitney Derman decided to continue onto receive her masters from Rutgers University in order to become more knowledgeable in the field of international relations. Upon completion of her degree, Whitney hopes to pursue a career in diplomacy as it combines her loves of travelling, politics, and meeting people from all over the world.

Her international experience includes doing the European Summer Institute study abroad program through the UN MA program where she got to live in Kassel, Germany and take classes in the field of international relations and live with a host family. During the study abroad she also got the unique opportunity to visit the UN Headquarters and other government/ UN agencies in Geneva where she got to hear different lectures from people working in the field. Whitney also spent a semester in Israel where she taught English to schoolchildren from grades 1-6. She has also taken part in several programs focused on improving relations between the US & Japan, one of which was called “Building the Tomodachi Generation” in which 15 students from the US and 15 students from Japan were selected and then put into small groups to come up with a solution to rebuild after the 2011 earthquake in Japan.

As of this spring,  she is getting ready to leave for Colombia where will be doing an internship with a strong focus on international development. Whitney is also looking forward to any opportunities that will arise in the future.
