Welcome! Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is one of the few universities to offer the first fully developed UN studies program. Rutgers’ commitment to international education is embodied in its motto, “New Jersey roots, global reach.” Our M.A. Program in Political Science - United Nations and Global Policy Studies (UNMA) provides excellent preparation for those seeking to pursue careers in international affairs, whether through the Foreign Service, Peace Corps, the United Nations, international Non-Governmental Organizations, domestic NGOs, and the Academy. Areas of involvement include human rights, social and economic development, disarmament, conflict analysis, sustainable development, peacemaking and socially responsible investment. Taught by a world class faculty, the program's curriculum offers our students cutting edge theoretical and conceptual understanding of the challenges facing the world, as well as provide them with the skills necessary to address these challenges. We are collaborating with representatives of the UN organization and UN member states, civil society and philanthropic organizations, the private sector and other universities - in the US and abroad.

Taylor Crosby:

Taylor is a Master’s degree candidate in Political Science- United Nations and Global Policy Studies program at the Rutgers University, concentrating in women and gender studies and the sustainable development goals. Before commencing her graduate studies at the Rutgers University, she served in the Peace Corps South Africa as a health volunteer where she gained experience in areas such as grant writing, development, sustainability and campaigning. She completed two bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Sociology at the Stony Brook University. While at the Stony Brook University, she competed as a scholarship swimmer, was involved in several university organizations with included but is not limited to the Student-Athletic Association and American Cancer Society.

Taylor is self-motivated, determined, detail-oriented, passionate to learn new things and able to work collaboratively to identify and resolve problems. Her career goal is to become an international advocate for the advancement of gender equality and sustainable development.

She has a strong interest in history and is a member of several historical preservation societies. She also likes traveling and swimming and coaching swimming in her spare time.

Emmy Dallas:           

Florence Emmanuela Dallas is graduating in May 2018 with a Masters Degree in Political Science and International Relations.   Her study concentration was in United Nations and Global Policy Studies. She has been consistently at the top of her class during her education and is looking forward to working hard towards her future endeavors.  Emmanuela’s further in-depth area of study has been in “Conflict Resolution, Counter-terrorism, and Cyber Security” as well as in “Democracy, Participation, and Community.”   While studying she has interned at an NGO for safe water, the Hellenic Mission to the United Nations, and currently at the UN DPA (Department of Political Affairs at the UN Headquarters), in the Office of Genocide Prevention and RtoP with the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General.   In addition, she has worked for the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens, Greece and has attended international high-level meetings (OECD, in Azerbaijan), and has translated (from Greek to English) the Greek Deputy Minister of State and Prime- Ministers' speeches.

Emmanuela intends to apply for a position in the United Nations, either as a political affairs or human rights officer.  She is also open for employment in international organizations or NGOs, which deal with prevention of conflicts, human rights issues, or political affairs, as well as the Diplomatic Corps.

 Whitney Derman:

Whitney Derman is a second year UN MA student. After pursuing a bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Rutgers University, she decided to continue onto receive her masters from Rutgers University in order to become more knowledgeable in the field of international relations. Upon completion of her degree, Whitney hopes to pursue a career in diplomacy as it combines her loves of travelling, politics, and meeting people from all over the world. Her international experience includes doing the European Summer Institute study abroad program through the UN MA program where she got to live in Kassel, Germany and take classes in the field of international relations and live with a host family. During the study abroad she also got the unique opportunity to visit the UN Headquarters and other government/ UN agencies in Geneva where she got to hear different lectures from people working in the field.

Whitney also spent a semester in Israel where she taught English to schoolchildren from grades 1-6. She has also taken part in several programs focused on improving relations between the US & Japan, one of which was called “Building the Tomodachi Generation” in which 15 students from the US and 15 students from Japan were selected and then put into small groups to come up with a solution to rebuild after the 2011 earthquake in Japan. Currently she is getting ready to leave for Colombia where will be doing an internship with a strong focus on international development. Whitney is also looking forward to any opportunities that will arise in the future.

Lukas Feick:

Lukas Feick is a double-degree student in Political Science at Rutgers University and the University of Konstanz, Germany. At his home university in Konstanz, he majors in International Administration and Conflict Management and will be graduating next Spring. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Governance and Public Policy. His curriculum concentrations and research interests include political violence, security, and counter-terrorism policies. He has a strong background in quantitative methods but has also engaged in qualitative research, for example in his B.A. thesis.

Over the summer of 2018 he will be interning with the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) and will work on a project on Internet-based political and religious radicalization. In the future he seeks to work in government agencies or think tanks in the field of (inter)national security, researching and developing innovative strategies to address the various security challenges that the international community is facing.

Merissa Pimenta:

Merissa Pimenta is a Master’s Degree candidate in Political Science: Global Policy and Untied Nations with experience in International Organizations. Before commencing her graduate studies at Rutgers University, she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs in Costa Rica. While in Costa Rica, she worked assisting diplomats and interned at the Ministry of Culture, Department of International Cooperation and focused on formulating projects to the UNESCO. While enrolled in the MA program, she worked with the Consulate of Costa Rica in New York and interned at Mission of Costa Rica to the United Nations. She would like to concentrate her career on human rights work and her personal goal is to better the lives of others.

Albert Semeniuk:

Albert Semeniuk continues to work on honing communication and analytical skills developed during his years in corporate business environments for a transition to a career in government policy and political study. He has multiyear experience working for technology firms such as Experian and British Telecom.

Albert has returned to Rutgers, after earning his B.A. in Political Science & History in 2008, to complete an M.A., looking to leverage this graduate study into opportunities for careers found both domestically or overseas. He is currently investigating becoming a Foreign Service Officer and is deciding between the Public Diplomacy or an alternative track. “Having graduated near the peak of the Great Recession, I fought for and began the best careers I could find. However, after a decade of building experience outside the field of politics, I’ve decided to get back to my original inspiration.”

Albert loves to read and can be frequently found consuming political and business news, biographies, magazine essays, and a healthy dose of science fiction. He enjoys spending time with his wife on their adventurous road trips, winning in tabletop games against his friends, going camping, skiing, and playing tennis.

Peter Windsheimer:

Peter Windsheimer is a political scientist who started his Master Degree in Political and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz after he finished his Bachelor Degree at the same University in 2016. In his Master Degree he specialized upon International Administration and Conflict Management. This specialization was further deepened by his participation in an exchange program between the University of Konstanz and the Rutgers University. During this exchange he studied within the UNMA program and graduated from it in May 2018 with a Master of Arts Degree.

After graduating from the University of Konstanz in March 2019, Peter Windsheimer is planning to apply his research interest in conflict management by pursuing a career in think tanks that research this topic or by joining the public administration in a department in which he can apply his research experience. Furthermore, he also developed an interest in quantitative research methods and Data Science, which he liked to further and expand during his professional career.
