Synopsis: This course deals with different types of capitalist economies, the way they interact with political processes, and the ways they are affected by the globalization of trade and capital markets.  The first part of the course deals with the overall organization and functioning of the global economy.  The second part of the course focuses on the way new democratic governments in Latin America have dealt with the political challenges of market reform.  The third focuses on democracy and market reform in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union
