Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to the ideas, interests, and institutions that define British politics and governance. We will examine the historical and cultural context of the current political structure, starting with key institutional differences which separate the British system from ours, such as its parliamentary style of democracy and lack of a written constitution. We will also examine the UK’s political institutions and electoral system as they compare to other liberal democracies, and consider the role of political behavior and attitudes in the UK in driving the current political environment. Finally, we will examine the UK’s role in international politics, especially its current role in exiting the European Union.
